Scott Stubbs Bendigo, VC, Obituary: Athletics Leader Dies After Short Battle With Cancer
The athletics community is mourning the loss of Scott Stubbs, a respected competitor, volunteer, and dedicated supporter of grassroots athletics, who passed away following a short battle with cancer. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from teammates, fellow volunteers, and families whose lives he touched through years of service and commitment to the sport.
Scott was widely recognized for his involvement with the Bendigo Harriers and for his leadership as a former President of Kyneton Little Athletics. Athletics was more than a personal passion—it was a family tradition. Inspired by his daughters’ participation in the sport, Scott became an active competitor himself, taking part in a variety of track and field events including discus, hammer throw, long jump, javelin, shot put, and the 100-meter sprint during Athletics Victoria Shield League competitions and Country Championships.
Beyond competition, Scott earned the admiration of those around him through his willingness to help wherever needed. He regularly volunteered his time maintaining athletics facilities, assisting with equipment, and ensuring the venue remained ready for athletes of all ages. Friends and fellow club members remember him as an easy-going, dependable individual whose positive attitude made him a valued presence at every event.
During his time as President of Kyneton Little Athletics, Scott played a key role in strengthening connections between junior and senior athletics. His efforts helped create coaching opportunities for young athletes while encouraging their development and continued participation in the sport.
Scott’s passing leaves a significant void within the athletics community. He is survived by his wife, Christine, and their four daughters, Hailey, Maddie, Nicole, and Demi, who were at the center of his life and sporting journey.
Family, friends, teammates, and community members will gather to celebrate Scott Stubbs’ life at a memorial service scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, at T.J. Scott and Son, Kyneton, followed by a wake at the Kyneton RSL, where loved ones will honor the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
